DeFi lending · Aave, reimagined
DeFiLend
Borrowing isn’t broken — it’s biased. DeFi fixes the bias, then scares away everyone it was fixing it for.

The why, in one breath
Banks decide who deserves credit with rules that miss real wealth — my family’s own loan proved it. DeFi lending fixes the rules but terrifies normal people. DeFiLend adds the missing comfort: practice money, plain explanations, insurance, and autopilot.
Premise
2021: a Dartmouth admit with a scholarship, and the bank still wanted our home — worth 5× the loan — at 12% APR, while my father’s blue-chip portfolio counted for nothing. The barrier to credit isn’t money; it’s rules about what counts.
Why it’s hard
Aave answers the fairness problem — collateral in, loan out, no committee. But the user it matters for has never held a health factor in their head, and one irreversible mistake is a permanent goodbye.
The insight
Exploring Aave’s retail surface, five gaps — and none are protocol problems. Every one closes with product.
Problems I saw → features I built
Closed in order of fear.
Watching new users meet Aave, the same behaviour patterns kept repeating. Each pattern became a feature:
Growth levers discovered · each with its meter
North star: simulator → first real deposit. ★
TVL is the vanity metric here — mercenary capital follows incentives out the door, and one whale moves it more than a thousand newcomers. A practised newcomer committing real funds is the whole thesis, proved one user at a time.
